HOTELS ALONG TONG PING ROAD

Tong Ping area is between the Airport and the United Nations offices and the Government Ministries. The hotels are on the main power line to the State House so they boast the best uninterrupted power. The Hotel rates in this area also tend to be fairer. Hotels in Tong Ping; being near the Ministries and UN and near the Airport; may be the best to book into if you are on official business.

Juba Regency Hotel
Opened in June 2011, the hotel is tucked in a side street below the John Garang International school. There is a small sign at the entrance opening to a spacious car park and a grand hotel. The entrance is magnificently adorned with a chandelier, pillars and green plastic palm trees.  The front of the hotel has three large conference rooms, one on the right and two at the left, a large classy bar, spacious dining which can seat 80 people, and a very well furnished and decorated reception lobby in the center. At the end of the compound there is a garden bar with a fountain and ten well spaced tables covered with canvas umbrellas where guests can relax in the evening. The hotel has only around 20 rooms, the rest are to be constructed. The rooms are spacious and self contained with satellite TV, fridge, large cupboards, wireless  and air conditioning. The hotel charges USD 160 Bed and Breakfast. They serve an a la carte menu as they have few rooms. The menu is continental, prices are 15 pounds for breakfast, and around 30 pounds for a meal of your choice for lunch or dinner. They have chefs from 3 countries so you can place a special order for Ethiopian food.

Beijing Juba Hotel
The lobby is spacious and high, with a customer service desk as well as a three person reception. To the right drops a very large restaurant on six levels, with the buffet table right at the bottom. Off from the restaurant, behind the reception is a huge theatre hall which again is on six levels with a stage and screen at the bottom, which used to be used for bands and other indoor events. On one side are two large snooker tables. Just outside is a wide tree shaded restaurant area with a band stand. The style is prefabs but very stylish with Chinese decorations and lamps. They offer accommodation with wireless internet and conference facilities. Sample prices $100 for a self contained room Bed and Breakfast. Chinese menu, meals approximately SDP 30 per meal. There is a large and well equipped gym for 15 pounds per session near the entrance.

Il Paradiso Hotel and Restaurant
Paradiso is a medium sized hotel on the main road located below the ministries and UN Ocha. They have a medium sized open sided bar and restaurant. There is a cabro tiled veranda with plastic chairs. The hotel specializes in Ethiopian food at around 25 pounds per meal, but also serve Continental dishes including Pizza, steaks and pork chops at around 30 pounds They now have a charcoal grill where they prepare several types of grilled skewers and steaks as you watch. Their breakfast is served early and 15 pounds. In the evening they play very soft music as the patrons sit in the dining having drinks and chatting. There are five waitresses and the Director is hovering around, making service very fast. The rooms are simple but only US$ 75 self contained, air conditioned with wireless, you will not find another hotel on the main road with such services at that price.

Asante Country Club
Asante opened in January 2011. They have the only swimming pool near the city center, as well as a health club with sauna, steam bath, plans for a gym and massage parlor. The dining is complete and the bar is above the health club overlooking the pool and the main road. They have 17 very spacious stone guest rooms in three separate blocks around the compound. The self contained rooms have a large flat screen tv with Satellite TV, a decked four poster bed draped with mosquito nets leaving a lot of free space.
They have a membership fee for the club, which maintains the class. Room rates were at 130 dollars bed and breakfast. They have Sri Lankan ownership and management, as well as many of the staff. Location, immediately next to Paradiso Hotel, towards the airport, on the main Tong Ping road.

Olympic Hotel
Olympic is a medium sized hotel opposite the Indian consulate on the main Tong Ping road. The main feature is there is no alcohol and no outside seating, making it a very good family hotel. In April 2010 they constructed a new grass thatched front extention with a snack bar and a barber shop as well as a small additional restaurant. They offer a wide range of very reasonably priced meals, continental meals, Italian or Ethiopian all at around 20 pounds.They sell a huge glass of freshly prepared juice at only 8 pounds, either Avocado, pineapple, watermelon or mango. There are many cakes and pies. The self contained air conditioned rooms with wireless internet are around $130 bed and breakfast. They also offer conference facilities.

Glory Hotel
Glory is a medium sized hotel with a small restaurant, they offer wireless internet and satellite TV in the rooms. The self contained air conditioned rooms are around $130 bed and breakfast. They also offer conference facilities. They have a simple menu with Ethiopian and continental meals each at a standard price of 20 pounds.

Panache Hotel - Thong Ping Business Center
Panache have a complex with a hotel, office block, a cyber café, travel agent, hair salon, barber shop, clothing boutique and a wide open air seating area where people can meet The reception is very small but next there is a large well stocked bar with working counters for guests to work on laptops. There is a good pool table and the friendly bar man will play with you. The hotel has a gym, and a massage ranges from 70 pounds. The restaurant serves Continental, Pizza and Indian food with meals around 30 pounds. A self contained air conditioned room goes for around $150. Offices can be rented in the office block.

Airport View 'Motel'
Airport View have no rooms, it has now been taken over by Egyptians. They are renovating it to make it an International Standard restaurant. They have renovated the grass thatch roofed restaurant, the stone air conditioned conference room, the four grass thatched bandas and the wide paved seating ares, and constructed a take away kitchen. The renovation is still continuing. They have a wide menu with 10 different chicken dishes at 35 pounds, fresh apple, pineapple, watermelon or banana juice at 10 Pounds, middle eastern kebabs at 40 pounds. There is a comfortable simple bar and restaurant in traditional style with bamboo and grass thatch, with low lounge chairs around a TV near the bar. They also do outside catering. Its busy in the night as a night club, they offer shisha pipe smoking, Ethiopian ceremonial coffee prepared as you watch and sometimes live bands.

The entrance has a very large and well equipped salon and barber shop. The haircut is only 10 pounds and a massage is only 70 pounds.

ARKEL
The very friendly lady manager boasts the best food in town for healthy people. The salad buffet is unrivalled, and there are countless sandwiches on offer, especially vegetables of all types. The hotel is small and cozy with prefab rooms. The staff are welcoming and there is a small modern air conditioned bar and restaurant. The rooms are en suite, they have wireless internet, self contained, air conditioned, satellite TV and fridge for $150 for a single bed and breakfast. There is a buffet with plenty of salads for around 30 pounds. They also do outside catering and office lunches (as well as building and construction!). Located behind smart camp.

Matumizi
Matumizi hotel has only seven rooms, each is a wooden tunnel and groove walled cabin standing alone, with dark brown stained walls and light brown wooden doors. The rooms are airy and comfortable inside and the elderly owner and the youthful manager are always there to welcome guests and makes it a homely place. The food is cooked for only the few guests so it can be made as you like it. The small bamboo sided bar and restaurant is for guests only so is simple and quiet. The entrance is not easy to find for privacy, the rooms have wireless, self contained, with wide netted windows and fans for $100 for a single bed and breakfast. There is a buffet or a la carte for around 25 pounds. Located behind smart camp after Arkel matumizi.

Red Sea Hotel
Red Sea and Asmara are off the main street on the airport side. Due to their inner location they are more welcoming and have more to offer and better terms than the main street hotels. Located behind Smart Camp, the hotel is clean, quiet and modern. They offer satellite TV, 24 hour uninterrupted power, good security air conditioned self contained rooms at around $100 bed and breakfast. They have a continental menu at around 25 pounds.

Asmara Hotel
Asmara and Red Sea are off the main street on the airport side. Due to their inner location they are more welcoming and have more to offer and better terms than the main street hotels. Located behind Smart Camp, the hotel is quiet and modern style. There is a very interesting round shaped open sided bar and also an open veranda with seating. The dining room is enclosed, very clean and European style. They have a cyber cafe as well as wireless internet. They offer satellite TV, good security air conditioned self contained rooms at around $100 bed and breakfast. They have an Ethiopian menu at around 18 pounds as well as an Indian and also a continental menu at around 25 pounds. there is a large conference room that can seat 100 people.

Logali House
Logali is the most exclusive place in Juba for accommodation. It is a 3 storey palatial house in a secluded place between Thong Ping and Ministries Roads, not far from Home and Away. Logali House is an old homestead, beautifully restored into a hotel. It is privately owned by the Logali Family who have entered into a joint venture with a number of international investors. The Logali family have a respected reputation in Juba passed down from the late Hillary Logali who was a prominent figure in the years of civil war.

The rooms are around $275 for a single bed and breakfast, well above the other hotels. The privacy and security is unrivalled. The high metal gate is only opened for guests and is on the end of the lane. Access to the rooms is only through the reception and visitors are not allowed past the reception. The rooms have a no numbers for privacy and security. The reception has an interesting old time feel, with cement floor and paintings on the walls. There are varnished closed wooden doors leading to other areas.

The restaurant is small with square shaped tables and benches which tend to working tables for laptops while eating. The new manager has redone the menus, there is a different theme every day, Chinese, Indian, European, African, and very unique dishes. The meal costs around 35 pounds. At the back is a well stocked secluded veranda bar called 'Georges'. George was the Hotel dog, when he passed away the bar was renamed in his memory. His son now is the star attraction, but can bite playfully when excited. There are bar biting's for 20 pounds like chicken wings and spicy meatballs. There is a great Friday Braai Barbeque buffet in the garden, which slopes down from the verandah bar. It is a hedge-enclosed garden seating area with tables well separated with grass, bushes and flowers. The buffet has a wide selection of salads, meats, fish, desserts, all for 50 pounds.

Logali also offer conference facilities and have now gone big on outside catering.

Nimule Resort
Nimule is located behind Thong Ping near the UNIMIS. There are several rows of double story prefab rooms, well maintained and clean, then in the middle is the ‘Banda’, the Resort’s signature Restaurant. The bar and restaurant are open sided and airy, in between the blocks of rooms, giving a feeling of privacy. The contemporary decor is simple yet authentically stylish creating a relaxed and informal setting. They specialize in Indian cuisine (North and Southern) and also serve Chinese and Continental cuisine as well as "Nyama Choma", roast goat meat Kenyan style. Nimule offers a full anglo-english buffet breakfast, assorted carved tropical fruits, cereals with milk, sausages, baked beans, grilled tomatoes and bacon, omlettes, fried eggs, scrambled egg and boiled eggs, drinking chocolate, coffee and tea, bread plain and toasted butter, jam and honey for only 20 pounds as well as a smashing sunday curry lunch and live frontage cooking at only 35 pounds. The Hotel also has conference facilities and offer office delivery available.

Juba Plains Hotel
Plains is a small and simple place, it has a few rooms, an open sided bar and restaurant with only a few chairs and tables, in low relaxed style, it is a homely place with Kenyan staff. They have a very reasonably priced Kenyan menu, whole fried Tilapia, goat meat, Sukuma wiki, with either chips, Ugali or rice. They can prepare food to order for you, according to your request. They put either football or Kenyan news on the big screen TV depending on their customers.
